Statement: Stormont authorities comment on delays in equality strategies

The Detail asked the Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) to comment on delays in the delivery of a Racial Equality Strategy and a Sexual Orientation Strategy.

An OFMDFM spokesperson said: “OFMDFM had a draft racial equality strategy out for consultation which aims to tackle racial inequalities and promote good race relations. To ensure we work towards the common goal of eradicating racial inequality, it is important that the opinions of everyone are taken on board. The analysis of the consultation is complete and officials will have the proposals of the final strategy with Ministers shortly."

The OFMDFM spokesperson added: “OFMDFM remains committed to publishing a Sexual Orientation Strategy, which will be informed by full public consultation. The intention is that the Strategy and associated action plans will address the issues that impact on the daily lives of lesbian, gay and bisexual people. A Project Team, chaired by OFMDFM with representation from the LGB community, as well as representatives of the University of Ulster, ICTU, Training For Women Network and a men’s sector representative continues to meet to oversee the development of the Sexual Orientation Strategy."
